Keep It Dark

You’ll get the best sleep in a dark environment. The darker the better. Even surprisingly small amount of light can greatly diminish the quality of sleep so don’t ignore that LED-laden appliance beaming from the corner of the bedroom. To keep it dark there’re two main ways to go: room treatment or sleeping mask.
Room treatment means installing blackout curtains and taping over any glowing gizmos in the room (humidifiers, clock-radios, etc.). This works but it’s a lot of effort and doesn’t travel with you.
Sleeping Masks are, in my opinion, a far better option. They take a bit of getting used to but have several distinct advantages:
- Cue to your body that it’s time to sleep
- Are great for travel where you can’t control the light in other rooms
- Allow you to get up in the middle of the night and see where you’re going by leaving a night light on in your room and partially lifting the mask. Completely dark bedrooms can be treacherous to navigate.
Either way you go, don’t ignore this easy win for your sleep quality.
